Postal Service Announces New Location for St Charles Post Office

Construction Expected to Start Fall 2008

St. Charles, MO — The U.S. Postal Service today announced plans to relocate the St. Charles, MO, Main Post Office to the southwest corner of Boone and First Capitol Drive.

“The current Post Office at 112 S. 5th St. is not adequate to serve the needs of postal customers in our community,” said St. Charles Postmaster Ruth Intelkofer. “The new site will offer St. Charles postal customers with an upgraded, modern facility and adequate parking for both customers and employees.”

The Postal Service and St. Joseph Health Center have entered into an agreement that accommodates the hospital’s expansion plans and ensures St. Charles residents have easy accessibility to postal services within the 63301 ZIP Code area. The new Post Office will contain almost 25,000 square feet and house delivery operations, retail services and provide for future growth.

The Postal Service has owned and occupied the current Main Post Office for St Charles since 1975.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
