Post Office will Move Letter Carriers from Pony Express Station to Main Office

Move of 10 Carriers will Help Cut Costs; No Impact on Local Delivery Service

ST. JOSEPH, MO — Postmaster Carl Norwood announced today that the Postal Service will move the city letter carrier unit from the Pony Express Station to the St. Joseph Main Post Office, located at 201 S. 8th St., effective Saturday, April 11.

The Pony Express Station’s carrier unit currently houses 10 delivery routes.

“The move will help us achieve some operational efficiencies, and will have no impact on local mail delivery,” said Norwood. "And, of course, we will still have retail window operations and the PO Box section at the Pony Express Station.”

It has 34,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services, not tax dollars, to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
