Kansas City Puts its Stamp(s) on Historic Inaugural Souvenir
Local Stamp Fulfillment Center Fills More Than 12,000 Orders for Presidential Folio, So Far
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sometimes referred to as the “Fort Knox of Stamps,” the US Postal Service’s Stamp Fulfillment Services (SFS) Center, located inside the cavernous Hunt Midwest SubTropolis, has a golden opportunity for stamp collectors and history buffs alike. It’s the Postal Service’s commemorative Presidential Inaugural Stamp Folio.

The official commemorative souvenir to mark the upcoming inauguration of Barack Obama as America’s 44th president was made available to the public on a pre-order basis only on usps.com on Dec. 2nd.
The SFS, located inside Kansas City’s SubTropolis at 8300 NE Underground, will host a special sneak preview of the postmarking process and initial shipments of the Presidential Folio for Kansas City media on Friday, Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. SFS employees will greet members of the media at the 8300 entrance (directly underneath the flags of the world) and escort you inside.
The national philatelic item will be part of a folio that also includes:
- A collectible stamped envelope with silk portraits of the newly elected President Obama and Vice President Elect Joseph Biden.
- A commemorative inaugural digital color postmark.
- Photographs and biographical information.
- A brief commentary on inaugural tradition and history.
- The Presidential Oath of Office.
The official inaugural folio sells for $14.95 and will be available for same-day purchase beginning Jan. 20, 2009, at select Post Offices, usps.com or by calling 1-800-STAMP-24.
