Post Office Commemorates 10TH Anniversary of Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum

BALTIMORE, MD —The Baltimore Post Office is commemorating the 10TH Anniversary Celebration of the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum by issuing a special pictorial postmark.  The celebration is being held Saturday, June 14 at the museum, 300 Oella Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21228.

The special postmark will be available at the event from 12 NOON to 4:00 PM at the temporary Benjamin Banneker Museum Station. The postmark is free and will be applied to any item bearing first-class postage ($.42).

The Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum opened its doors in 1998. The 142-acre institution of cultural and natural history features a living-history colonial farm, artifacts and changing gallery exhibits. Banneker, a Maryland native, was a self-educated astronomer and known as the first African-American man of science.

Mail order requests for the postmark should be sent to Benjamin Banneker Museum Station, Main Office Window Services, USPS, 900 E. Fayette Street, Baltimore MD 21233-9715. Please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return. Requests for the cancellation must be postmarked no later than July 14, 2008.
