Letter Carrier Saves a Life

SALISBURY, MD — City Letter Carrier Amy Williams was delivering mail on her route when she heard the screams coming from the backyard “He’s dead! He’s dead!”  Eliezer Charles, 3 had slipped outside the back door and fallen into his aunt’s above ground pool.

“His eyes were wide open, these big brown eyes looking back at me with no life,” said Williams, who began efforts to resuscitate the child. “I kept saying, “Breathe, baby, breathe.” Williams had learned CPR 25 years ago, but had never used it until now

The boy’s eyes opened and he immediately spit up the stagnant water.  As a precaution Charles was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center. The family which immigrated from Haiti 14 years ago, is incredibly grateful to Williams. “It’s a tragedy, but it’s got a good ending because of her,” said Habacuc Petion, the child’s uncle.
