Busiest Mailing Day of the Season Nears!

Baltimore, MD — The Postal Service expects to deliver 20 billion letters, packages, and cards between Thanksgiving and Christmas, with the busiest mailing day expected to be Monday, Dec. 18, when more than 280 million cards and letters will be processed –— more than twice the average on any given day.  Total mail volume on Dec. 18 is projected to rise to 900 million pieces.  The busiest mailing day will be Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Local postal officials anticipate 3 million cards and letters will be processed on Dec. 18.  That’s twice the amount on an average day at the Baltimore Processing and Distribution Center

The media is invited to the Main Post Office, 900 E Fayette Street, on Monday, Dec. 18, to interview Baltimore Postmaster Mike Harlow beginning at 8:30 a.m. There will be photo opportunities in the retail lobby.  Please call ahead of time to schedule a specific time to meet.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $73 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
