Postal Service asks customers to clear a path to the mail
Help local letter carriers get the mail to you
BALTIMORE, MD – With the winter storm bringing significant snow and ice to our area, the Postal Service is asking customers to assist their letter carriers by clearing snow and ice from their walkways and around curbside mailboxes.
The old saying, Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds; acts of nature can present problems. Customers can assist letter carriers in the completion of their appointed rounds by clearing a path to the mailbox.
Although many outdoor workers discontinue their activity in inclement weather, letter carriers are still on the job- each delivering to hundreds of customers daily. Snow and ice can present a problem for any walker, but imagine the obstacles presented to letter carriers who are walking on ice or snowed-covered routes.
Whether your mail arrives on foot or by postal vehicle, the carrier needs to be able to approach the mailbox to deposit mail. (Letter carriers are instructed to refrain from delivering to locations they deem hazardous.)
The U.S. Postal Service and postal letter carriers greatly appreciate your support.
