Sign speaks volumes for safe passage for letter carriers

Committee members Rich Stachowski and Jim Dee

THINK SNOW SAFETY—The Winchester Post Office Safety and Health Committee is taking proactive steps to enlist the support of customers to make winter mail delivery safer for letter carriers, posting two-foot-by-three-foot signs along strategic areas throughout the community reminding them: “A clean walkway is a safe walkway.” Committee members Rich Stachowski, left, letter carrier, and Clerk Jim Dee post a sign in front of the Post Office to open the winter safety campaign kickoff Monday, Nov. 17.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
