LeLacheur Park in Lowell provided the setting for a Take Me Out to the Ball Game stamp unveiling when the Lowell Spinners (Boston Red Sox Single A team) hosted their New York Yankees rival the Staten Island Yankees on Thursday, July 31. Nearly 5,000 people witnessed the game (a 7-2 Spinners victory) and Lowell Post Office stamp presentation by, from left, Postmaster Peer Golden, Tim Bawmann, general manager; pitcher Stephen Fife and Dave Zaher, supervisor of customer services at Lowell Post Office.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
