William Dow Jr. installed postmaster of Ludlow

LUDLOW—William P. Dow Jr. was installed postmaster of Ludlow Post Office on Friday, July 18, in the Polish American Citizens Club, 355 East St.

Theresa T. Bruso, acting manager of Post Office operations for western Massachusetts administered the oath of office while the new postmaster’s wife, Kelley, held the Bible.

Kathy Millas, financial systems analyst for the Postal Service’s Northeast Area, was master of ceremonies. Selectman Aaron Saunders, an aide to State Sen. Gale Candaras, spoke.

The Rev. John Connors, of St. Mary’s Church, gave the invocation and benediction. Dow’s nephews, Sullivan and Liam Webster, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Dow began his postal career in 1989 as a letter sorting machine operator in the Springfield General Mail Facility. In 1995 he was promoted to accounting technician in the finance office.

He served on details as officer in charge of Chesterfield, Huntington and Conway Post Offices before being named postmaster of Conway in 2003. He also served as officer in charge of Southampton and Ludlow Post Offices before his being named to head Ludlow Post Office.

As the installation head of Ludlow, he manages a facility that employs four persons collecting, processing and delivering mail to 900 Post Office boxes.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, he presented a framed stamp plaque featuring the American Journalists commemorative postage stamps to Durham Caldwell, columnist for the Ludlow Register.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Western New England College, Springfield, and is a member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks and Sons of Erin in Westfield.

He lives in Westfield with his wife and daughters, Nikki, a sophomore at Roger Williams College, Bristol, RI, and Becca, a junior at Westfield High School.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
