POWER RESTORED AT MORE LOUISVILLE POST OFFICES
MAIL DELIVERY CONTINUES DURING STORM CLEANUP
LOUISVILLE, KY — Despite massive power outages, school and business closings and extensive damage caused by Sunday's windstorm, the Postal Service continues to make deliveries.
“There are still some businesses we're not able to make deliveries to because they're closed,” said Louisville Postmaster Steve Gregory. “But in all other cases, we're getting Post Office Box mail to our customers and delivering mail to mail route customers.”
Since Tuesday, power has been restored to more postal facilities around the city. As of this morning, five retail window units (see below) and the Annshire Station are still without power.
Despite having no electricity, letter carriers have been sorting mail for their routes by way of battery-operated lanterns and flashlights. Gas-powered generators have also been set up at darkened locations.
“There are 170,000 residents still without power, but all of our employees have been reporting for duty. It's been a remarkable effort by everyone,” said Gregory.
Retail window units that remain closed:
Anchorage Post Office, 11501 Park Road
Cherokee Post Office, 2240 Cherokee Road
Hikes Point Post Office, 3050 Hunsinger Lane
Martin Luther King Post Office, 2727 West Broadway
Middletown Post Office, 119 Evergreen Road
Customers serviced by offices with no electricity can still pick up notice-left mail and hold mail during regular business hours.
