Dedication ceremony to be held Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 9 a.m.

LOUISVILLE, KY — The Hikes Point Post Office building, located at 3050 Hunsinger Lane, will be dedicated in honor of Louisville servicemembers who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan on July 3 at 9 a.m. The ceremony will take place in front of the Post Office. The public is invited to attend.

Congressman John Yarmuth (3rd District), who introduced a bill to rename the facility, will join Kentuckiana District Manager Ann C. Wright, Louisville Postmaster Steve Gregory and Hikes Point Station Manager Gary Brian in making the dedication.

The facility is being named in honor of Sergeant Michael D. Acklin II, Captain Clayton L. Adamkavicius, Staff Sergeant William A. Allers III, Sergeant First Class Charles J. Jones, Sergeant First Class Christopher W. Phelps, Sergeant Darrin K. Potter, Staff Sergeant George S. Rentschler, Lance Corporal Robert A. Lynch, Petty Officer Third Class Jeffery L Wiener and Sergeant David Neil Wimberg. It will be called the Fallen Heroes Post Office.

Construction on the Hikes Point facility began in 1986; it opened for business on Sept. 1, 1987. The Post Office serves the 40220 ZIP Code in the Hikes Point area through more than 16,000 daily deliveries.
