U.S. Postal Service Open for Business

Most retail units open, mail delivery spotty

LOUISVILLE, KY — Despite the massive snow that fell in Metro Louisville overnight, the U.S. Postal Service is operating as normal today.

All retail units are open for regular business hours, with the exception of the Baxter Avenue Post Office, 1527 Highland Ave., which is closed. Mail is being delivered to homes, and to businesses that are open.

“Delivery is spotty,” said Louisville Postmaster Steve Gregory. “About three-fourths of our routes are covered. But we are making every attempt to get the mail delivered.”

“The safety of our letter carriers in this kind of weather is always a big concern,” he added. “Any mail that we are unable to deliver today will be held until Monday.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
