The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebrated

Black Heritage Series Stamp to be Unveiled

LOUISVILLE, KY — The Postal Advisory Council of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Post Office will celebrate the birth of former civil-rights activist Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the Oak & Acorn-West End Center, 631 S. 28th St.

Louisville Postmaster Steve Gregory will unveil the 31st stamp in the Black Heritage series honoring turn-of-the-century author and lawyer Charles W. Chesnutt at the event.

The guest speaker will be former Rochester, NY community activist Virginia Parker. Performances by Teresa Hudson of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church and the Kids of Martin Luther King Elementary School Dance Ensemble.

A special award will be presented to council member Rev. A.J. Elmore. Letter carrier Eric Smith of the MLK Post Office will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
