FLOODING LEADS TO POST OFFICE CLOSURES

MAIL DELIVERY CONTINUES DURING CLEANUP

EASTERN KENTUCKY — The cleanup is underway from weekend storms that moved across parts of Kentucky.

A tornado was reported in Waco, KY, late Friday. Storms knocked out power, and caused flooding and mudslides in parts of eastern Kentucky.

Some 14 post offices in eastern Kentucky suffered water damage, causing the following offices to close: Eastern, Huddy, Langley and Martin. Those offices are expected to remain closed for several days while cleanup efforts continue.

“We have delivery issues in several areas and additional problems are developing due to the flood waters continuing to rise,” said Bill Johnson, Manager, Post Office Operations. “But the mail is still being delivered.”

Thompson said some deliveries were missed due to impassible streets or because roads and mailboxes were washed out.

Customers whose mail delivery has been affected by flooding can pick up their mail, with proper identification, at these locations:

It has 34,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services, not tax dollars, to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
