Santa to Visit Local Post Office to Help with Holiday Shipping
Santa will Bring Plenty of Money-Saving Ideas to Shawnee Mission Post Office Wed., Dec. 10
Shawnee Mission, Kansas — It's been rough sledding for the nation's economy, but Santa Claus will make a special visit to the Shawnee Mission Main Post Office Wednesday, December 10 at 11 a.m. to help holiday shoppers save money — and a good deal of time — on their holiday shipping. Santa, the world's foremost authority on holiday deliveries, will distribute advice (and more than a few candy canes) to customers until 2 p.m. The Shawnee Mission Post Office is located at 6029 Broadmoor, just east of Metcalf.
Santa (a.k.a. Retail Clerk Mark Presler) will demonstrate the ease and convenience of the Postal Service's Automated Postal Center (APC), which are frequently referred to as the "ATM of the Post Office."
“The APC provides quick, easy, and convenient access to postal services,” says acting Shawnee Mission Postmaster Mark McDonald. “Just as an ATM is a virtual stand-alone bank, the APC is a virtual stand-alone Post Office. But unlike the ATM, there’s no transaction fee. And with its easy access, customers can avoid the lines at the window counter.”
While APCs will meet most customer shipping needs throughout the year, many find that they are especially convenient during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. APCs provide access to postal services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Transactions may be conducted in English or Spanish. Using a credit or debit card, customers can ship holiday packages weighing up to 70 pounds.
Postal employees also will demonstrate how net-savvy shoppers can do all of their shipping online by going to the US Postal Service website at usps.com.
“You can schedule carrier pickup online and we’ll pick up your packages for free,” says McDonald. “We go directly to our customers six days a week, so they can skip the trip and save fuel this Yule. There’s never a fuel surcharge when you ship with the Postal Service — and no extra charge for Saturday delivery. Customers save time, money and energy by shipping with the Postal Service online.”
“You can do it all from your desktop at usps.com,” adds Santa. “The Postal Service offers the best service at the best prices, and they make every gift a priority — just like me!”
