Montezuma, Copeland and Ensign Post Offices to Offer Special Postmark for Endurance Ride

The Montezuma, Copeland and Ensign Post Offices will offer a special postmark to celebrate the Great Santa Fe Trail Horse Race Endurance Ride from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Independence, Missouri, Sept. 3-15, 2007.
The special postmark will be available at the all three Post Offices on Sept 7, and will be applied at no charge to any item with First-Class postage affixed. Montezuma, Copeland and Ensign are three of 31 Kansas Post Offices offering a special postmark.
“I encourage everyone to come down to the Post Office and get an inexpensive souvenir of the Ride,” said Montezuma Postmaster Dorothy Briseno, Copeland Postmater Daryl Casey, and Ensign Postmaster Karla Schubert.
The special postmark, designed by Endurance Race Organizer Stan Herd of Lawrence, Kansas, features two horse riders and the words “The Great Santa Fe Trail Horse Race Endurance Ride Station.”
Customers may also receive the postmark through the mail for 30 days following the event. Customers should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to: Endurance Ride Postmark, Postmaster, 207 Aztec Montezuma KS 67867; Postmaster, 107 Santa Fe. Copeland KS 67837; or Postmaster 306 Aubrey St., Ensign KS 67841. After applying the postmark, the envelopes will be returned through the mail. Requests must be postmarked no later than Oct. 7, 2007.
The Great Santa Fe Trail Horse Race is an 800-mile endurance ride completed over a 13 day period. One of the main objectives of the race is to educate the public not only on the national historic Santa Fe Trail, but also to introduce the sport of endurance riding to thousands.
