Mobile Postal Unit to Open in Greensburg on June 1

A mobile postal unit will open Friday, June 1, on the site of the Greensburg, Kan. Post Office, 139 N. Main St, which was destroyed by a tornado. The hours of operation will be 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays. These are the same hours the Post Office was open before the tornado.

The mobile unit will offer a full line of postal services. In addition, approximately 200 cluster box units (CBUs) are being installed on the property along with a blue collection box.

Greensburg area postal customers, whose mail delivery was affected by the tornado, may apply for one of the new mailboxes at the mobile unit. There are no fees associated with delivery through one of the CBU receptacles. Many Greensburg customers are currently receiving their mail through Post Office boxes in surrounding cities, including Pratt. Hours for the Pratt Post Office, 202 E. 3rd St., are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday hours for the Pratt Post Office will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., which is a change from the hours posted prior to reestablishing services at the new Greensburg Mobile Postal Unit.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to cover its operating expenses. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $73 billion and delivers nearly half the world's mail volume.
