Postal Service Seeks Public Input on Potential
Consolidation of USPS Stations in Wichita
Community Meetings Scheduled for Aug. 13 and 14
WICHITA, Kan.—The current economy and technological advances are combining to change the way people use and access services and products offered by the United States Postal Service, a self-supporting independent federal agency. Ongoing mail volume and revenue losses demand that the USPS review all postal operations to find opportunities to provide service more efficiently.
The Postal Service is considering consolidation of retail and delivery operations at the Chisholm Station, located at 2510 S. Elizabeth Ave in Wichita, which serves ZIP Codes 67213 and 67217. Retail services, including Post Office Box rental, now provided at the Chisholm Station would move to the Downtown Station, 330 W. 2nd St North, in Wichita, and to the River City Station, located at 3241 S. Hydraulic St in Wichita.
The Postal Service is also considering consolidation of retail and delivery operations at the Wichita North Station, located at 2325 N. Arkansas Ave in Wichita, which serves ZIP Codes 67204 and 67219. Retail services, including Post Office box rental, now provided at the North Station would move to the Downtown Station located at 330 W. 2nd St North, in Wichita.
“The public’s feedback on these potential consolidations will be considered before a final decision is made,” Wichita Postmaster Mark Talbott explained.
The community meeting for the North Station will be held at 11 a.m., Aug. 14, at the Evergreen Park Recreation Center, 2700 N. Woodland St. in Wichita.
The community meeting for the Chisholm Station will held at 1 p.m., Aug. 13, at the Westside Methodist Church, 1313 W. Lydia St. in Wichita.
If either station were to be consolidated, it would not occur until late this year at the earliest.
Talbott noted that pre-paid shipping labels can be conveniently purchased and printed out online 24 hours a day at usps.com.” Stamps are also available for purchase online and at various outlets around the city, including Contract Postal Units (CPUs) and Automated Postal Centers (APCs) at select Post Office locations.
