You Can Take It With You

Premium Forwarding Service is ready for the holiday rush

The winds of winter are beginning to blow. Snowbirds are heading south to avoid the frigid air, while others are preparing to travel for the holidays.

Traveling business executives, military personnel, college students and “snow birds” in NAME OF TOWN can all benefit from a service provided by the U. S. Postal Service, according to the local postmaster.

Premium Forwarding Service is a personalized service for residential customers who want to receive all of their mail at a temporary address while away from their permanent address for an extended period — from two weeks up to one year. Most mail is forwarded once a week by Priority Mail.

“Premium Forwarding Service is a personalized service for sending mail from a primary residential address to a temporary address using Priority Mail,” said Al Eakle, a spokesman for the Greater Indiana District of the U.S. Postal Service. “It is designed for residential customers who want to receive all of their mail at a temporary address.”

Customers won’t have to wait for important correspondence and favorite magazines until they return home, Eakle said. Premium Forwarding Service gives customers one more way to enjoy their mail in a timely manner.

Interested customers simply complete an application online at www.usps.com or at their local Post Office. Necessary information including name, address of primary residence, temporary address, contact numbers and start and end dates is required.

Premium Forwarding Service is temporary, but it does not replace the temporary or permanent Change-of-Address option.

The Postal Service collects the mail, boxes it and sends it to the temporary address once a week by Priority Mail. Express Mail, First-Class Mail or Priority Mail packages too large to fit inside the PFS package are rerouted separately at no additional charge.

Premium Forwarding Service is ready for the holiday rush

Premium Forwarding Service was designed to make life on the road or separation from friends and family a little easier.

“Convenience to the customer is key,” said Eakle.  “Whatever your situation may be, the Postal Service has several convenient service options for handling your mail. You may be away from home, but your mail doesn’t have to be.”

There is a one-time enrollment charge of $10. Customers are charged $11.95 for each weekly shipment during the period they are enrolled in the PFS.

In addition to Premium Forwarding Service, the Postal Service also offers Hold Mail Service, permanent forwarding and temporary forwarding.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
