It’s Time for Santa’s Mailbox!

Dear Santa…

Indianapolis, IN — You know the holidays are fast-approaching when Santa’s mailbox appears in downtown Indianapolis. The perennial favorite emerged this morning in its usual place — the east side of Monument Circle facing Market Street.

The mailbox is easy to spot — one side resembles a reindeer while the other side looks like Santa Claus. Children of all ages may drop their stamped letters in Santa’s special mailbox. Santa (with the help of postal elves!) personally answers each letter that has a return address. Last year, more than 5,500 letters with special wishes were sent to Santa in the unique mailbox.

Santa’s mailbox will remain on the Circle until the early morning hours of December 19th.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
