Nappanee Post Office Is Open for Business

Customers can expect deliver of mail despite tornado damage in the city

Nappanee, IN. — The Nappanee Post Office will have regular business hours today, October 19, 2007. The retail lobby is open for limited transactions from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. Carriers will deliver mail in the city, except in areas prohibited by local law enforcement, or if attempting delivery would jeopardize their safety.

“With the electricity down, we will accept minor transactions at the retail windows” explains Postmaster Brian DeCraene. “We are accepting mail, and mail collections will be made throughout the day.”

Customers needing Postal Services beyond the purchase of stamps, the mailing of letters, and other basic services are encouraged to go to neighboring Post Offices until electrical power is restored.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
