Most Northwest Indiana Post Offices to Close at Noon on July 3rd
Noon set as day’s final mail collection
Gary, IN — Most northwest Indiana Post Office (ZIP Codes 463-464) retail counters will close at noon on Friday, July 3, 2009 to enable retail employees to spend more time with their families. Noon will be the last collection for mail deposited in blue collection boxes that day. All collection points that have a regularly scheduled collection time prior to 12:00 PM (noon) on Friday July 3rd will be collected as scheduled. Regular mail delivery for July 3 will be unaffected by the change. P.O. Box mail access will only be available until 12:00 PM (noon) in those Post Offices where retail counters and access to Post Office Boxes are co-located and are affected by early retail closing. “As many businesses close early on July 3rd,” said Manager of Post Office Operations David Conwell, “the number of customers visiting our lobbies greatly diminishes. We view this as an opportunity to afford retail employees more time with their families by closing retail operations in most of our locations early on July 3rd.” The only exceptions are listed below. The retail counters will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on July 3rd and mail deposited in lobby collection bins and blue collection boxes located inside and outside the Post Offices will be picked up at 5:00 p.m. on that day.- Crown Point (128 S. East Street)
- Michigan City (303 W. Washington Street)
- Hammond (5530 Sohl Avenue)
- Valparaiso (2700 Valparaiso Street)
- Gary (1499 Martin Luther King Drive)
