Northern IL District Post Offices to Close early on Dec. 24, 26, 27

CAROL STREAM, IL — Retail counters at most Northern IL area Post Offices in city’s and towns with 600-603 and 610, 611 ZIP Codes will close at 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve, at 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. on December 26 and at 1:00 p.m. on December 27. However, mail will be delivered as usual on those days. All Post Offices will be closed Christmas Day, with regular mail delivery resuming Friday, Dec. 26.

“Many businesses close early during the Christmas holiday,” says District Manager Bob Hart. “The number of customers visiting our lobbies those days greatly diminishes. We view this as an opportunity to allow our retail employees more time with their families by closing retail operations in many locations early on December 24, 26 and 27.”

The following Post Office retail counters will remain open until 3 pm or 5 pm on Christmas Eve and December 26.

“We will make our last collection for mail deposited in blue collection boxes at 12 Noon on December 24 and 26,” Hart said. For those who still have cards or packages to send, the U.S. Postal Service will continue to make deliveries by Express Mail, even on Christmas Day.

Only Santa and the Postal Service will cheerfully deliver those last-minute, must-haves packages to family, friends and acquaintances on Christmas Day,” said Hart. “Just bring your package to the Post Office or have it picked up by your carrier by Tuesday, December 23.” In addition to regular zoned pricing, there is an additional charge for Sunday and holiday delivery of $12.50.

“Customers get free insurance for up to $100 against loss or damage,” Hart said. “We even provide signature proof of delivery upon request plus tracking information.”

Postal Service packaging is environmentally friendly and free. Customers can even mail packages from home by going to www. USPS.com to schedule a free pick up.
