DeKalb Post Office Changes Retail Counter Hours

Outer lobby hours remain the same including 24/7 Automated Postal Center

DEKALB IL —Full service retail counter hours at the DeKalb Post Office will change effective November 15, 2008.  The current 8:00 a.m. weekday opening retail time will now change to 8:30 a.m.  Saturday retail hours will change from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

“Like any retail business the Postal Service regularly reviews operations and makes adjustments when necessary,” says Officer In Charge Sharon Myers.  “The decline in mail volume driven by the downturn in the overall economy has impacted customer traffic in our retail lobby resulting in a change in hours.”

The new posted service hours beginning November 15 are:

Full Service Retail Counter Hours Outer Lobby Hours
M-F: 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. 24/7
Sat: 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Sun: Closed

Myers points out that consumers can purchase most mailing and shipping products and services available from the Postal Service without making a trip to the Post Office.

Locally, customers can purchase stamps and mail packages at the Contract Postal Unit located inside Resource Banks.  Stamps are available at Wal-Mart, Schnucks and Sullivan’s grocery stores.  In addition, customers can purchase stamps by mail, by phone by calling 1 800 STAMP 24, or at participating Dominick’s and Jewel supermarkets, and Sam’ Club and Costco warehouse stores.  Customers can also purchase stamps and print labels to mail packages, pay for postage and ship items by Express or Priority Mail at usps.com.  They can even request a carrier pick up when choosing Express and Priority Mail. They can also purchase shipping supplies, create and send greeting cards, postcards and letters, and put their mail on hold when traveling.

In addition, many Post Offices have an Automated Postal Center (APC) in the outer lobby, near the Post Office Box section that are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The ATM-like kiosks accept credit or debit cards and can handle 80 percent of retail counter transactions — like selling stamps, weighing packages and buying postage for Express and Priority Mail shipments, and First-Class and Parcel Post mailings

Post Offices offering 24/7 APC access include: Algonquin, Arlington Heights, Belvidere, Bloomingdale, Buffalo Grove, Carol Stream, Cary, Crystal Lake, Deerfield, DeKalb, Des Plaines, Elgin — Westside Branch, Elk Grove Village, Glen Ellyn, Glenview, Gurnee, Hoffman Estates, Itasca, Lake Zurich, Loves Park, McHenry, Mt. An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
