Congressman Jerry Costello sponsored the legislation to rename the West Frankfort Post Office Building as the Kenneth James Gray Post Office Building. The legislation became public law on August 10, 2008.

A life long resident of Illinois, Congressman Gray was born and raised in West Frankfort. A tireless advocate for the needs of the people of Southern Illinois, he brought $7 billion in development programs for highways, lakes, public works projects and 120 Post Offices and federal buildings to Southern Illinois.

Congressman Gray was first elected to Congress in 1954 and served 10 successive terms. He ran again, and won in 1984 serving another two terms.
