Alderman Fioretti to Walk a Mile in a Letter Carrier’s Shoes

What:
Alderman Fioretti will get an up-close-and-personal look at a section of the 2nd Ward through the eyes of a letter carrier serving the 60612 ZIP Code.

Who:
Alderman Robert Fioretti, 2nd Ward
U. S. Postal Service, Nancy B. Jefferson Station

When:
Thursday, June 26, at approximately 8 a.m.

Where:
Nancy B. Jefferson Station
2419 W Monroe St

Background:
As part of its ongoing community outreach, the Chicago District has extended an open invitation to aldermen interested in learning more about mail delivery in their wards. In these visits, aldermen begin the morning with the carrier as he/she prepares the day’s letters, magazines, and packages for delivery, then accompany the carrier on a portion of the route. These opportunities help aldermen understand the process of delivering mail in Chicago neighborhoods, and give letter carriers extra information on how best to serve their customers.

Aldermen interested in arranging a walk with a letter carrier may contact Mark Reynolds at (312) 983-8371.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
