Bloomington Post Office Adds New ZIP Code
Bloomington, Illinois — Bloomington, IL 61705 — it doesn’t ring a bell yet, but it will! Postmaster Mark Ford would like to inform all residents of the upcoming ZIP Code addition for the community. Effective July 1, 2008, Bloomington will have three ZIP Codes – 61701, 61704, and 61705.
“Due to the large growth in the number of homes and businesses in our area, an additional ZIP code separation is necessary and will allow the Postal Service to sort mail more efficiently and maintain our quality service and delivery standards,” said Postmaster Ford.
There will be no impact on the 61701 ZIP Code area. The new 61705 zip Code will consist of current 61704 customers, as well as new deliveries, who reside outside the boundaries of Towanda Barnes Road on the east, Veterans Parkway on the west, Brokaw Road, Abraham Road, Route 150, Harvest Hill Road, and I-74 on the south, and a northern boundary of Fort Jesse Road. If you have any questions regarding the new ZIP Code, call (309) 664-4673 for assistance.
“While it is important that residents begin using the new 61705 ZIP Code beginning July 1st 2008, in order to make the transition as easy as possible for our customers, we will ensure delivery of mail with the old ZIP Code for one year” said Postmaster Ford
“There are many other ways customers can assist as well,” Ford added. “The most important of these is to properly address all mail pieces.” Here are some tips:
- Always use your complete address, including apartment (APT) or Suite (STE) numbers. Be sure to include the correct directional such as E, SW, etc. and AVE, BLVD, ST, etc.
- Never guess a ZIP Code. An incorrect ZIP Code is worse than none at all. If you’re not sure, call 1-800-ASK-USPS (275-8777) or your local post office.
- The preferred address format is:
CUSTOMER NAME
BUSINESS NAME (if applicable)
PHYSICAL LOCATION (complete street address or po box number)
CITY STATE AND ZIP+4 CODE
