Chicago District Declares April 21 "Automated Postal Center Day"

Customers Encouraged to Visit Self-Serve Kiosks, Enter Drawings for Stamp Art

CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago District of the U.S. Postal Service has officially declared Monday, April 21 as “Automated Postal Center Day.”

“We encourage all customers to visit an Automated Postal Center on Monday, and find out how quick, easy and convenient trips to the Post Office can be,” district manager/postmaster Gloria Tyson said.   “Customers on the go will discover that waiting in line can be a thing of the past.”

Automated Postal Centers (APCs) are self-service kiosks that are always ready for customers with credit or debit cards. They can be used to look up postal information and for most mailing transactions, including:

  • purchasing a book of stamps;
  • mailing Express Mail, Priority Mail and First-Class letters and packages;
  • adding special services such as Insurance, Certified Mail, Delivery Confirmation or Signature Confirmation.

Customers who visit an APC on Monday will be entered into a drawing for matted stamp art (no purchase necessary). The district’s marketing team will celebrate Automated Postal Center Day by assisting customers using the kiosks between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
