Mt. Prospect Post Office is Opening Earlier On Saturdays

Full Retail Service Will Now Start At 7:30 a.m.

MT PROSPECT, IL — Postal customers in the northwest suburbs now have another reason to get up early on Saturday.

Effective February 2, 2008, the Mt. Prospect Post Office, 300 W. Central Road, will open one hour earlier on Saturdays to make it more convenient to use Postal Service products and services. On Saturdays the Post Office will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 3:00 p.m. with Monday through Friday hours remaining the same opening at 8:30 a.m. and closing at 7:00 p.m.

“We want to make using the Post Office quick, easy and convenient for our customers,” says Acting Postmaster Mike Naranjo. “This is just another way we’re working to better meet our customers’ shopping and mailing needs.”

Besides extending retail hours on Saturdays the Mt. Prospect Post Office has an Automated Postal Center (APC) that is open 24/7 to enhance customer service. “Our APC works much like an automated teller machine,” says Naranjo. The ATM-like kiosks accept credit or debit cards and can handle about 80 percent of typical postal transactions — like weigh packages and buying postage for Express, Priority, First-Class and Parcel Post mail. “It’s easy and convenient for customers in a hurry,” says Naranjo.

In addition, Naranjo says many services available at the Post Office are now available on line at usps.com. “You can buy stamps, use Click-N-Ship to print your own mailing labels, pay for postage and confirm delivery,” says Naranjo. “You can even request a package pick up at your home or office at no extra charge.”

“Expanding hours provides customers with more options and more access to the products and services they need,” Naranjo said.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
