DETAILS:
For over 60 years Pastor Sykes has been a leader in the religious, social and political life of Maywood while ministering to the Church of God at Second Baptist Church since 1961.

Reverend Sykes is a graduate of Crane Junior College, Chicago Teachers College, The Chicago Baptist Institute of Elmhurst College and holds an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Baptist Theological Institute, Birmingham, Alabama. He has also done post graduate studies at Northeastern University and Northern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Reverend Sykes has provided leadership in the establishment of the Hayden Memorial Educational Fund that provides scholarships to students desiring higher education. He has also helped establish a Day Care Center, Music Center, Talent & Tutoring Center, School of Religion, Education Building, Community Crisis Center, Housing Programs and Boy & Girl Scout troops.

On December 18, 2006, legislation to designate the Post Office building located at 415 South 5th Avenue in Maywood, Illinois, as the "Wallace W. Sykes Post Office Building" was signed into law by the President. This legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Danny K. Davis.
