Moving Days for Wicker Park Station

New retail center, carrier annex coming this weekend

CHICAGO, IL — Wicker Park postal customers and employees alike will soon have a little extra elbow room.

The Wicker Park Station, currently located at 1635 W. Division St., will relocate to two new sites this weekend, following the expiration of its lease at the current facility. The new facilities will provide greater convenience to customers and improve operating efficiency for employees.

Wicker Park retail services will relocate to 1300 N. Ashland Avenue, two doors down from Staples in the shopping center, effective Saturday, October 24, 2009. The new location will offer full retail counter service, an Automated Postal Center kiosk (self-service convenience with credit or debit card), additional Post Office Boxes for rent, and plenty of free parking. Also, customers can come to this location to retrieve items for which their letter carrier left notice of attempted delivery. The new retail facility will be open weekdays from 8:30 am to 7 pm, and Saturdays from 8 am to 3 pm.

Delivery operations for ZIP codes 60622 and 60642 will relocate to a new Wicker Park Carrier Annex at 1419 W. Carroll Avenue, effective Monday, October 26.

“We’re looking forward to moving into our new homes,” station manager Bonita Brown said. “The extra space will allow us to provide more efficient and convenient service to our customers.”

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 149 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes, six days a week. It has 34,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services, not tax dollars, to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
