Most Northern IL District Post Offices To Close at Noon on July 3rd
Noon set as day’s final mail collection
CAROL STREAM, IL — Most Post Office retail counters in the Northern Illinois District of the U.S. Postal Service will close at noon on Friday, July 3, 2009 to enable retail employees to spend more time with their families. The last collection for mail deposited in blue collection boxes will also be at noon on that day. All collection points that have a regularly scheduled collection time prior to 12:00 PM (noon) on Friday July 3rd will be collected as scheduled. Regular mail delivery for July 3 will be unaffected by the change. P.O. Box mail access will only be available until 12:00 PM (noon) in those Post Offices where retail counters and access to Post Office Boxes are co-located and are affected by early retail closing.
The Northern Illinois District includes cities and towns with ZIP Codes 600-603 and 610-611.
“As many businesses close early on July 3rd said District Manager Bob Hart. “The number of customers visiting our lobbies greatly diminishes. We view this as an opportunity to afford retail employees more time with their families by closing retail operations in most of our locations early on July 3rd."
The following Northern Illinois District Post Office retail counters district will remain open until 5 pm on July 3rd and mail deposited in lobby collection bins and blue collection boxes located inside and outside these Post Offices will be picked up at 5 pm that day:
- Arlington Heights (909 West Euclid)
- Carol Stream (550 East Fullerton)
- Crystal Lake (301 East Congress Parkway)
- Des Plaines (1000 East Oakton)
- Elgin (66 Grove Court)
- Evanston (1101 Davis Street)
- Gurnee (1 North O’Plaine Road)
- Melrose Park (1824 North 25th Avenue)
- Rockford (5225 Harrison Street)
- Schaumburg (450 West Schaumburg Road)
- Sycamore (106 East State)
Commercial customers are asked to check with their Bulk Mail Acceptance Unit for July 3rd hours of operation. To obtain the phone number of a specific Post Office, customers may call 1-800-ASK-USPS.
Post Office retail counters will be closed on Saturday, July 4, 2009 (Independence Day – a federal holiday) and there will be no mail delivery.
Post Offices retail counters will resume regularly scheduled hours on operation on Monday, July 6.
