U.S. Postal Service Maintains High Performance Scores

Chicago Postal Customers Receive Top Service

CHICAGO, IL — The U.S. Postal Service has released the latest national on-time performance scores for the delivery of First-Class Mail. The FY09 second quarter results for Single-Piece on-time mail delivery were 96 percent for overnight (local), 93 percent for two-day and 91 percent for three- to five-day. The second quarter covers January, February and March 2009.

The FY09 second quarter results for Single-Piece on-time mail delivery in the Chicago District were 95 percent for overnight (Chicago-to-Chicago), 94 percent for two-day and 92 percent for three-day. This marks the fifth consecutive quarter the district delivered 95 percent or more of overnight mail on time.

“These successful delivery scores are a direct result of postal employees’ efforts in providing our customers with the best service possible,” said Chicago District Manager/Postmaster Gloria Tyson. “We continue to anticipate our customers’ shipping and mailing needs and we strive to exceed them.”

The Chicago District includes 1.2 million business and residential addresses, in the City of Chicago, which has the 606 ZIP Code prefix, and Chicago suburbs with 607 or 608 ZIP Code prefixes.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 149 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes, six days a week. It has 34,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services, not tax dollars, to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
