It’s NALC Food Drive Week!

Letter carriers collecting food donations at Chicago District Post Offices

CHICAGO, IL — Chicago District postal customers are asked to join their letter carriers in helping “Stamp Out Hunger,” during the annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Food Drive.

Postal customers who live in Chicago neighborhoods with 606 ZIP Code prefixes or Chicago suburbs with 607 or 608 ZIP Code prefixes may bring donations of non-perishable food to any Chicago District Post Office during the week of May 4-9. Customers can also log onto www.feedingamerica.org/stampouthunger to make a monetary contribution. All donations will help the Greater Chicago Food Depository stock local pantries during the summer months.

“With more than 13 million kids going to bed hungry each night in America, the need is now more than ever,” Jimmie Canada, NLC Branch 11 president said. “We hope that everybody will be generous. This will help feed a lot of needy people.”

The NALC Food Drive is the nation’s largest single-day food drive, logging more than 909 million pounds of donations since its national launch in 1993. Chicago letter carriers collected approximately 70,000 pounds of food during last year’s drive.
