Postal Service Honors Classic Wooden Boats

Special Pictorial Postmark Available at McCall Classic Boat Show

MCCALL, ID — The U.S. Postal Service would like to invite the public to attend a special pictorial postmark event featuring the Vintage Mahogany Speedboats commemorative postage stamps.

Hand cancellations will be available from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, at the McCall Classic Boat Show, being held at Whitetail Resort on Payette Lake in McCall, ID.

The four subjects on the sheet of 12 stamps showcase the polished mahogany and gleaming chrome that characterize the nation’s historic wooden motorboats. Each vintage watercraft is still in use today:

  • Frolic, a 1915 Hutchinson Brothers launch.
  • Dispatch, a 1931 Gar Wood triple cockpit runabout.
  • Thunderbird, a 1939 Hacker-Craft commuter boat.
  • Duckers, a 1954 Chris-Craft Racing Runabout.

All four stamps will be available for postmarking while supplies last. The postmark is free with the purchase of a First-Class stamp. Souvenir envelopes will also be available for purchase for $3.00 each (cash or check only).

The weekend festivities include more than 30 classic wooden boats on display, a banquet, and an auction sponsored by the Payette Lakes Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc.

Newly installed McCall Postmaster Jeff Robertson invites boat lovers and families to come and enjoy a great day at the lake.
