Postal Service offers special postmark to honor BSU success

BOISE, ID — The U.S. Postal Service will commemorate the Boise State University Broncos successful 2006 season and 2007 Fiesta Bowl win with a special pictorial postmark and souvenir envelope.

The postmark and envelope will be available January 20 during the parade down Capitol Blvd. The Postal Service will have a mobile trailer placed in the parking lot of the old Federal Building, across from the State House steps.

"The use of postmarks to commemorate special events is a time-honored tradition of the Postal Service," said Postmaster John Ballard. "We are very proud of the Broncos and proud to offer this remembrance of the team's success."

The postmark is free with the purchase of a First-Class postage stamp. The postmark will also be available by mail for 30 days after the event. To obtain the postmark, affix a First-Class postage stamp to an envelope, address the envelope (to yourself or others) and place it into a larger envelope addressed to: Postmaster, "The Blue Station," 770 S 13th St, Boise, ID 83708.

After applying the postmark, the Postal Service returns the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by February 19, 2007.

The commemorative envelope will sell for $4.00 each at the event (cash or check only) while supplies last. After the Jan. 20 event, the commemorative envelope will be available at the Boise Main Post Office, 770 S 13th St, as well as at the Post Offices in Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell. To receive the commemorative envelope by mail, send a check for $4.00 for each envelope ordered to: Postmaster, "The Blue Station," 770 S 13th St, Boise, ID 83708.

An independent federal agency, the Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses — six days a week and also has 37,000 retail locations. It relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. USPS has annual revenues of $73 billion and delivers more than 46 percent of the world's mail volume.
