Kalona Iowa Post Office to Host Free eBay Seminar

Kalona Iowa —  With the click of the mouse, postal customers never have to leave the house — or office — to conduct their shipping business.  To demonstrate how customers can save time, money and gas, the Kalona Iowa Post Office, will host a free 2-hour eBay seminar on Thursday, October 16th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Kalona Public Library, located at 510 C Avenue.

Seating is limited, and attendees are asked to RSVP by calling 319/656-2422 — or sign up at the Kalona Public Library or the Kalona Post Office no later than October 14.

Michael Hummel, the Small Business Specialist for the Postal Service’s Des Moines-based Hawkeye District, will demonstrate how to:

  • Photograph and download pictures online
  • Write effective descriptions of merchandise
  • Post items on eBay
  • Set attractive starting bid prices
  • Use the “Buy It Now” option
  • Sell items on eBay
  • Pay postage and print labels
  • Request free package pick-up from their local Post Office
  • Order free, environmentally friendly packaging
  • Save from 1 to 11 percent on their shipping costs
  • Use Click-n-Ship and PC Postage to save an average 3.5 percent

“Teaming up with the Postal Service is a significant win for the eBay community,” said Kalona Postmaster Gae Walton.  “Our integrated services offer a seamless solution for selling on eBay, and provide eBay sellers with the tools and services to manage and grow their business.”

To date, millions of Postal Service shipping labels have been printed by eBay users using online postage.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
