Waterloo Post Office Set to Reopen Main Office Lobby on Saturday

PO Box, Caller Services to Resume Saturday; Full Retail Services on Monday

Waterloo, Iowa —Waterloo Postmaster Greg Barnes announced today that the Main Post Office, located at 300 Sycamore, would resume Post Office Box and Caller services on Saturday, June 14. Full retail window services will be available beginning Monday, June 16, including the acceptance of mail at the Main Post Office’s Bulk Mail Entry Unit (BMEU).

“Postal Service employees again demonstrated their ability to deliver for our customers despite the flood waters — and in many cases, their own personal hardships related to the flooding,” said Barnes.

More than 135 employees will return to the Waterloo Main Post Office today or this evening to resume mail sorting operations. The employees had been processing mail at a temporary location on Thorson Ave.

Also on Monday, June 16, Waterloo’s familiar blue mail collection boxes will be back in service.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
