Most Hawaii Post Offices Open on Christmas Eve
45 to Close Early; Final Mail Collection at Noon
Honolulu — All but two Post Offices across the state will be open for business on Christmas Eve, but 45 offices will shorten their retail lobby hours on Christmas Eve to enable some postal employees to enjoy the holidays with their families. Regular mail delivery out of those offices for Dec. 24 will be unaffected by the changes.
Two small postal facilities serving Pearl Harbor Naval Air Station will be completely closed, at the request of the base commander. Those two offices do not provide delivery service.
“As many businesses close early Christmas Eve,” said Postal Service Honolulu District Manager Daryl Ishizaki, “the number of customers visiting our lobbies greatly diminishes. We view this as an opportunity to afford some of our postal employees more time with their families by closing retail operations in many locations early on Dec. 24.”
Ishizaki added that the final collection of mail from all blue collection boxes on Dec. 24 will occur at noon.
