Postal Service Still Delivering Despite Weather Challenges

DULUTH, GA — Despite facing some of the most challenging weather conditions in recent local history, Atlanta District postal officials report that delivery personnel will be back out on the streets and roads of North Georgia today, and will attempt to complete as many of their scheduled deliveries as possible.

“Obviously, we face the same challenges that everyone else has to endure given the severity of weather in this area,” says Atlanta District Manager Kate F. Wiley. “However, where it is safe to do so, our letter carriers will be on the streets as usual. Weather is a very fluid situation, so we will be assessing the situation throughout the day and directing our employees to make deliveries in those areas where it is safe to enter.”

“We know that mail is very important to our residential and business customers, but the safety of our employees must be our first priority. We must also defer to law enforcement and other officials in determining those areas where it is safe for our employees to travel.”

Wiley asks that postal customers be patient during these difficult times, as mail delivery in some areas may be later in the day than usual, but deliveries will be completed if the areas are accessible by postal vehicles.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 149 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes, six days a week. It has 34,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services, not tax dollars, to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
