Postal Service to Introduce ‘T-3’ Electric Vehicle in Key West

T-3 Electric VehicleKey West FL —The U.S. Postal Service will introduce a “T-3,” a three-wheeler that runs soley on electricity, at a press conference at 11 am on Thursday, October 30, at the Key West Post Office, 400 Whitehead Street.

Key West is one of five cities that will test the new delivery vehicle. Other pilot sites include Jacksonville, FL; St. Augustine, FL; Irvine, CA; and Sun City, AZ.

At the press conference, a demonstration of the T-3 will illustrate the U.S. Postal Service’s dedication to environmental sustainability.  A representative from the T-3 Motion manufacturer will be available to field questions.

The T-3 vehicle has a range of 40 miles, a maximum speed of 12 mph and a load capacity of 450 lbs — and costs less than 4 cents a mile to operate.  The T-3 trailer is used to store mail for delivery.  The trailer features lockable and secure mail storage compartments and a solar panel to power the trailer’s anti-theft alarm system.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
