Little League Teams Can Benefit from Donations of Baseball Gloves

Fort Myers, Cape Coral, FL —Do you have a baseball glove lying around the house that won’t be used again? Would you like to see it put to good use? If so, the U.S. Postal Service has a suggestion of what you can do with the glove! Local Post Offices are cooperating with the national Pitch In for Baseball organization, whose mission is to help kids all over the world share the great American pastime of baseball by providing used equipment to young people. Between now and August 30, you are asked to bring that “gently used” glove to any Post Office.

Lee County Post Offices are cooperating with Little League Baseball in distributing these donated gloves to Little League players who need them. The special collection program will conclude with the last Saturday night home game of the Miracle baseball team on August 30. The gloves can also be brought to the game, which will feature a fireworks display at the conclusion of the game.

The gloves will be distributed locally as well as to the non-profit organization Pitch In for Baseball. Local groups who would like to receive gloves are asked to contact Debra Mitchell at 573-9638.

The Saturday, August 30, game at Hammond Stadium, will also feature the Take Me Out to the Ballgame postage stamps; the stamps have been issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the song, which has been sung during the 7th inning stretch of baseball games for most of those 100 years. Individuals purchasing sheets of the 42-cent stamp from the postal service representatives at the game will be given tickets for a drawing of a framed stamp art presentation piece during the 7th inning.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
