South Florida Business Mailers: Are You Ready for Upcoming Postal Changes?

Pembroke Pines FL —The Miami-Dade County Postal Customer Council is on the move. South Florida postal leaders and business mailers are sponsoring a “Lunch and Learn” seminar  to explain new requirements to the U.S. Postal Service’s “Move Update” standard.

Although changes will not be implemented until November, now is the time for business customers to prepare their mailing address lists. The seminar will take place from 11:30 am  to 1 pm on Friday, August 8, in the Postmaster’s Conference Room (# 535) of the Miami GMF, 2200 NW 72 Avenue, Miami.

Currently, the Move Update standard applies to First-Class Mail only. Effective November 23, 2008, the minimum frequency for Move Update will change from 185 days to 95 days prior to the date of mailing. The Move Update standard also will be required for Standard Mail.

To comply with the Move Update standard, business mailers must use an approved method to update the addresses on mailings for any class of mail. Customers also can meet the Move Update standard if the same address is used on First-Class Mail or Standard Mail within 95 days after the address has been updated. Additional information, including an exception for mail with an alternate address format, is available in the U.S. Postal Service’s Quick Service Guide at:  http://pe.usps.com/text/qsg300/Q230a.htm.

Mailers who attend the seminar will learn about changes their businesses need to make and will enjoy lunch at the same time for only $10. To register and pay by credit card or check, log on to www.miamipcc.com and click on the “Education” link.

Postal Customer Councils are community groups that consist of  U.S. Postal Service and business leaders who work together to improve mail service and to help member companies be more successful. Through regular meetings, educational programs, and seminars, PCC members learn about the latest postal products and services.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
