National Dog Bite Prevention Week May 18-24

WHAT:
Letter Carriers of the Cape Coral Central Post Office will be visited by Andrea Jones, Investigator for Lee County Animal Services and Ria Brown, Public Information Specialist, to speak about tips on preventing dog attacks and how to react if attacked by a dog.

WHEN:
9:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Friday, May 23

WHERE:
Cape Coral Central P.O., 1030 SE 9 Ave, Cape Coral, Fl

BACKGROUND:
The Postal Service is asking dog owners across America to show their letter carriers some love this week by making sure their pets are in separate rooms with closed doors before accepting mail. Last year dogs attacked more than 3,000 letter carriers nationwide. Man and woman’s best friend bites more than 4.7 million people a year, and key experts believe that public education can help prevent these bites. Each year 800,000 Americans seek medical attention for dog bites, half of these are children. Of those injured, 386,000 require treatment in an emergency department and about a dozen die. Please join us for this important public education campaign!

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
