Postal Service to Participate at Calle Ocho

Employees to Promote USPS Brand, Sell Cachets at Festival

Pembroke Pines FL — For the first time in history, the U.S. Postal Service is going to the Calle Ocho Festival on Sunday, March 16.

Calle Ocho (pronounced kay-yeah oh-cho) means “Eighth Street” in Spanish and is the single largest celebration of Latino culture in the United States. More than one million people from around the world are expected to attend Calle Ocho’s 30th anniversary celebration.

This year, festival-goers will find that Calle Ocho not only is a cultural celebration of food and entertainment, but also is a learning experience. The U.S. Postal Service will be promoting its premier product — Express Mail — and the new Priority Mail Flat-Rate Box. Postal employees also are promoting Dinero Seguro, or Sure Money — a safe, affordable, convenient method of transferring money internationally and domestically — as well as many other products and services. Employees will be stationed at Booth # 36 on the north side of SW 8 Street at 15 Avenue, across the street from Maximo Gomez Park (Domino Park).

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
