“Beacons of Light”
Postal Service to Dedicate Pacific Lighthouse Stamps at Shalimar, FL Event

The United States Postal Service will conduct a Dedication Ceremony for the Pacific Lighthouse Stamps on June 21, 2007. The ceremony will be held on the front lawn of the Shalimar, FL Post Office beginning at 11:00 AM.

Scheduled to attend are Jerry McAllister, Finance/Administration Commissioner, Shalimar; Stanley Walker, Postmaster, Pensacola; Lucious Sumlar, Manager Marketing, North Florida District, United States Postal Service; and Chuck Bush, Chief Warrant Officer from the United States Coast Guard. In addition, Bob & Sandra Shanklin, “The Lighthouse People,” will be on hand. The Shanklins, residents of Fort Walton Beach, have photographed every one of the 750+ lighthouses in the United States. Their images of the Five Fingers and Diamond Head Lighthouses were used in the production of two of the five Pacific Lighthouse Stamps.

Leslie McLean, a University of Florida sophomore, and summa cum laude graduate of Fort Walton Beach High School, will sing our national anthem. The Fort Walton Beach Police Honor Guard will present the colors.

The Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony prior to the dedication ceremony. The ribbon cutting is to welcome the Shalimar Post Office to the area chamber.
