Dashing To The Mailbox
All Post Offices Open Christmas Eve, Most Closing Early
Are you dashing through the snow with errands left to go? More than 251,000 delivery routes around the nation will dash out with millions of holiday cards and packages throughout this weekend.
Local residents need to dash to a mailbox, too, to be part of those Christmas deliveries. Postal officials say Saturday is the last day to deposit stamped cards and Priority Mail packages for receipt by the holiday. Post offices throughout the region will be open normal hours on Monday and Tuesday.
December 23 is the recommended last day for mailing Express Mail to most locations for delivery by, or on, Christmas Day.
On Christmas Eve, Post Offices will be open but most in the region will shorten retail lobby hours. The last collection of mail deposited in blue collection boxes for December 24 postmarking will be noon. There will be regular mail delivery on December 24. Except for Express Mail, there will be no delivery of mail on December 25.
All regular postal operations, including window services and delivery, will resume December 26. A federal holiday extended by the President does not extend to post office operations
The Postal Service’s Connecticut District serves more than 3.5 million postal customers over more than 5,000 square miles through 218 post offices and an additional 80 stations and branches.
