Ol’ Blue Eyes Comes to Greenwich
Post Office celebrates Sinatra, ‘Come Rain or Come Shine’
GREENWICH — It will be Frank Sinatra, “All The Way” at the Greenwich Post Office, 29 Valley Drive, on Friday, May 16, 2008. Starting at noon, the new 42-cent Frank Sinatra commemorative postage stamp, CD and accessories will be the toast of that Post Office with special activities to celebrate the Chairman of the Board.
Frank Sinatra, one of the most celebrated entertainers of the 20th century, is commemorated on a postage stamp available at the Greenwich Post Office May 16th.
“Our event commences an “open house” of sorts at the Greenwich Post Office as we introduce to local residents and customers, the advantages that the Postal Service offers by shipping through us online at USPS.com,” says Doreen Reichard, Postmaster of Greenwich and the official ‘Postal Ambassador’ of the Postal Service’s Northeast Area.
In a career studded with accolades, Sinatra won an Oscar, several Grammy awards, received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1971, and was recognized at the Kennedy Center Honors in 1983. Sinatra also gave generously to many charities. President Reagan awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1985. He was born in Hoboken, NJ, in 1915 and died in 1998.
“Frank Sinatra was an extraordinary entertainer whose life and work left an indelible impression on American culture,” said Postmaster General John Potter. “His recordings, concert performances and film work place him among America’s top artists, and his legendary gift for transforming popular song into art is a rare feat that few have been able to replicate. The Postal Service is proud to honor his achievements.”
Every day, 1.2 million people visit the Postal Service’s award-winning web site, USPS.com.
“America has learned that just about anything they can do at the Post Office, they can do from their home or office computer. As Frank would say, you can do it ‘my way,’ which is when the time is right for you,” added Ms. Reichard. That includes, she noted, ordering the Frank Sinatra stamp and special related merchandise on line.
The Postal Service’s Connecticut District serves more than 3.5 million postal customers over more than 5,000 square miles through 218 post offices and an additional 80 stations and branches.
