No Address Change For Seymour Post Office

Postal Officials Opt For Redesign Of Current Site

Seymour CTThe following statement was issued today by the office of the Postal Service’s District Manager for the Connecticut District, Edward F. Phelan, Jr.

We are pleased to announce that we have completed our study of alternate sites for the Seymour Post Office. We believe the Postal Service, as well as the Seymour community, will be best served by the redirection of our attention to upgrades at our existing site. Therefore, this is the course of action we will undertake.

To reach this decision, we considered several existing buildings in the Main Street area of Seymour. The primary choices for alternate quarters there were not suited to postal operations.  An additional site outside the Main Street area was also seriously explored. However, our comprehensive review process, which includes the impact of alternative retail postal facilities in the area, was not favorable for the third site as a matter of sound business practice.

For that reason, we have opted to redirect our attention to upgrades at our existing site. There is no timetable in place for redesign or construction work. However, we look forward to a timely start-up that will allow us to serve the Seymour community with a minimum of disruption.

Editor’s Note:  The Seymour Post Office is located at 91 Main Street in Seymour.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
